Perspective: it can be hard to change your perspective sometimes, but one way to open your mind up a bit is to do a simple drawing test. This picture shows my results from doing the “Coffee Cup Test”.
I’m not sure if there is an official name, but I remember hearing about this a long time ago. Ask a couple of people (or yourself) to draw a coffee cup. Most people would draw a cup from the perspective shown here on the left side of this image. This is a typical view of a coffee cup and a very usual perspective to see.
This become a little more challenging though when you tell the group of people (or yourself) to hunt down other views of the coffee cup. It took me a few days to even get all seven of these additional perspectives, but I did it! It was a very helpful tool for me to learn how to hunt down new perspectives and be more open the other possible solutions to problems.
Have you ever tried this drawing challenge yourself? What did you think of it? Did you draw a coffee mug, or something else? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
