Today I learned about a festival in Japan called Shichi-Go-San! This is written as 七五三 and literally translates to “Seven-Five-Three” which is fitting as this festival is a “rite of passage” for children (age 7, 5, and 3) in Japan. Specifically for girls that are 7 years old or 3 years old, and boys that are 5 years old.

The festival happens once a year on November 15th. The children are dressed in their best little outfits, often including the traditional kimonos for the girls. Families usually visit shrines for photo op and to celebrate their children as well as spending time praying for the little ones future and health.

I love learning about the Japanese culture, how cool is this little festival to celebrate your children? Do you know any fun things about Japan or other places or cultures you are interested in? Comment below, I’d love to hear about your favorite cultures and traditions!
